What CivicFKT is
A leaderboard for cyclists riding between civic endpoints — city halls and state capitols across the United States. You upload (or auto-import) your GPS-recorded rides; the server checks whether they pass through the endpoint zones in the right order; matched rides land on per-route leaderboards. The rules page is the canonical description.
Riding is your responsibility
This is the most important part. CivicFKT does not encourage you to ride dangerously. The rules page makes this explicit: "obey traffic laws and ride safely. No leaderboard time is worth getting hurt or putting others at risk."
By submitting a ride to CivicFKT, you affirm that you rode it yourself, you observed all applicable traffic laws, and you accept full responsibility for the consequences of your ride. CivicFKT is not liable for injury, property damage, traffic citations, or any other harm resulting from a ride you record and upload. The leaderboard is a record-keeping service, not a competition organizer.
Your account
You sign in via Google or RideWithGPS — there is no separate password for CivicFKT to mishandle. You're responsible for keeping your provider account secure; if someone takes over your Google or RideWithGPS account they can sign into CivicFKT as you.
You can disconnect your CivicFKT account at any time on /me. Disconnect deletes everything: account row, uploaded rides, leaderboard standings, OAuth tokens, files on disk. There's no recovery — it's final by design.
Your rides
You own your ride data. By uploading or auto-importing a ride you grant CivicFKT the right to:
- Store it on our server, in the original format you supplied (or, for RideWithGPS auto-imports, a GPX we synthesize from their API).
- Compute summary stats and run the verification pipeline against it.
- Display your display name, segment time, distance, average speed, and ride date on public leaderboards when the ride matches a route. The underlying GPS track and any sensor data are not exposed publicly.
You retain the right to delete any individual ride or your whole account at any time. The privacy policy covers the storage details.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Submit rides you didn't actually ride. The verifier checks GPS tracks, but it can't tell whether a track was generated by a person on a bike or by a script. Submitting fake rides may result in your account being banned.
- Use the contact form, display name field, or any other input to harass other riders, spam, or post abusive content.
- Attempt to attack, probe, or otherwise compromise the site or other riders' accounts.
- Scrape leaderboard data at high volume. The pages are open for human reading; programmatic harvesting is not.
An admin may ban an account that violates these terms. Banned riders are filtered from leaderboards and stats; their account row is preserved so an unban restores them in place.
Service availability
CivicFKT is run by one person on a single server. We make no availability promises. The site may be unreachable for maintenance, hosting issues, or because the operator is on vacation. RideWithGPS auto-import depends on RideWithGPS's webhook delivery — they don't retry, so a ride recorded while CivicFKT is down can be re-imported by pasting the trip URL on the upload page.
No warranty
CivicFKT is provided "as is." We don't warrant that the verifier is correct on every edge case, that the leaderboards will always be available, that your data won't be lost in a hardware failure, or that the site will continue to exist. We do our best, including database backups before risky migrations, but you should consider any data on CivicFKT to be best-effort, not authoritative.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, CivicFKT and its operator are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site, including but not limited to: lost ride data, lost leaderboard standings, injury sustained while riding, traffic citations received during a ride, or any third-party action taken in response to data displayed on CivicFKT.
Changes to these terms
Material changes will move the "Last updated" date at the top. The terms live in the same source tree as the rest of the site, so the change history is preserved. Continued use of CivicFKT after a change constitutes acceptance.
Termination
You may delete your account at any time on /me. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. On termination, the disconnect flow runs — your data is wiped from the database and disk.
